    Warren Swain was just. . .not great. "It's picked up by the Huskers. [dead silence] And it's a touchdown." How about. . ."It's picked up by the Huskers, 15, 10, 5, TOUCHDOWN!" Such a weakass call.

    You skipped the play at the 50 yard line where the replay showed Casanova fumbled and LSU recovered. If there were replay then Nebraska would have lost the game. In 1982 vs Penn State Osborne would have his first National Championship if there were replay.

    That was a great Oklahoma team that might have been one of Switzers very best teams. Even though Oklahoma got revenge in the Orange Bowl that year, Nebraska kept them from winning the National Championship.

    I watched this game as a little kid, and looking back on it, this contest was a great argument for allowing teams from the Big 10 and Pac 8 to play in bowl games, other than the Rose Bowl. Georgia was no match for the Cornhuskers. If the rule allowing non-champions to play in bowls had been in effect in 1969, Nebraska might have found itself matched up with the likes of Ohio State (one loss) or Purdue (two losses) from the Big 10, or UCLA (one loss) or Stanford (two losses) from the Pac 8. Any of them would have given the Cornhuskers a better contest, and Ohio State may have been favored to beat them.

    I was 8 years old, i only saw so much at the time. T.O. was so focused on a power running game. In today's game, youd be stupid not to use Fryar more. The speed. When i see highlights now, no wonder he wad the number 1 overall pick.. Look at his 1982 stats. He couldn't have been that much worse of a football player. His speed in the open field is what gets me, I didn't see much of him back then. Then he plays forever with the Eagles & Dolphins etc putying up huge career #s

    Solich is the only Nebraska Full-back, at least since 1946 anyway to run for over 200 yards in a game. 204 against this Air-Force team in '65. Nebraska ran what was called the T Formation. Sort of a predecessor to the Wish-bone. Three Backs lined up parrel to each other behind the quarterback. The full back directly behind the QB and the two halfbacks beside him. Kind of wonder how this might work today, since no one has used it in decades.

    "Here's a hand-off to Thunder who gives it back to Mike Stones - he's gonna throw it! He's got a man out there at the 40! It is......ERIC CROUCH! Fifteen-ten-five... TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!"

  • @jeffreyk5734
    @jeffreyk5734 10 месяцев назад

    Frank Solich was asked recently what his best 40 time was back in the day. He said "I played so long ago we didn't even have 40 times yet!" Bob used to time the players in the 60 yard dash and sometimes the 100. The 40 rather Hand-held or Electronic, hadn't been introduced. Frank was actually pretty fast. He ran a 6.5 something 60 yard dash I believe. Winters and Wilson looked pretty damn fast for such bruisers.

    Saw this old highlights back in the early 80's on 16-millimeter color film. Haven't seen them since. 1962 - 1966 I think Season recap and review films all in color. So many great highlights. Including Frank Solich running for 204 yards again Air Force in '65. That was quite run by Charlie "Choo, Choo" Winters who was a huge Full-back. I think something like 245 pounds. 'Light Horse" Harry Wilson with an incredible run too. Nebraska led the nation in Rushing several times under Devany. Huskers used to run out of a T formation. Quarterback, Full back directly behind him and the two half-backs all three lined up Parella. Sort of a pre-cursor to the Wishbone or Vere. I wonder how this would work today? No one has run it in decades.

    Jim Johnson, quarterback of Mizzou, achieved greater fame in the NFL as a defensive coordinator for the Eagles. As a college quarterback he was a terrible passer, but was a mobile runner who was a defensive back on defense. He was forced to fullfill both roles because this was the era of one platoon football with limited substitution.
